A high quality modern barn conversion in an excellent unspoiled coastal position within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Apple Barn is situated at the head of a valley leading down to the estuary, with beautiful views to Salcombe and sunsets.
Several sandy beaches are within a 15-minute walk, or a few minutes' drive. Nearby car parks include the National Trust car park at Mill Bay. There are scenic walks in all directions from the property including spectacular sections of the South West Coast Path and a track leading down to Mill Bay and the Salcombe estuary. It is a fantastic location for those who love coastal walks, sailing and peace.
Salcombe is just a few minutes away from Mill Bay by ferry and has excellent restaurants, cafes, shops and holiday buzz. Various boat trips and boats for hire are available.
The new restaurant and bar at Gara Rock is a quarter of a mile from the property in a spectacular position overlooking the sea (open at least April-Sept). The villages of East Prawle and South Pool with their pubs, cafe and shop are within four miles, other village shops and farm shops are about 15 minutes' drive. The local market town of Kingsbridge is about 20 minutes and historic Dartmouth is 30 minutes away.

Accommodation overview: The Byre and The Linhay are adjoining barns set in the delightful grounds of Higher Ash Farm (and owner's nearby farmhouse), just two miles from the famous naval town of Dartmouth, and a 10 minute drive along the coast road to Blackpool Sands beach. The farm (with cows, sheep and chickens) produces a wide range of fruit and vegetables for sale when in season to guests, and fresh eggs are available most of the year.The LinhayA very large and tastefully presented barn conversion with lovely views across neighbouring gardens, orchard and rolling fields. The barn has been fully refurbished in recent years yet retains many original features including cross beams and exposed stone walls, and is ideally suited to two couples or extended families with younger children looking for a quieter location within easy reach of Dartmouth and the surrounding area. In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Valonia Cottage at Cromer Lighthouse The original Cromer Lighthouse was built in 1680 but the present lighthouse, a white octagonal tower, was built in 1833 and converted to automatic operation in 1990.
Valonia Cottage (with accommodation for six guests) is one of two semi-detached cottages at the lighthouse, which is a mile from the traditional North Norfolk town of Cromer. A 10 minute stroll along the coastal path or along the beach will take you into Cromer, where you can explore shops, pubs and sample local seafood - notably, the excellent Cromer crab sandwich. Cromer is a popular holiday destination for families, and has a long sandy beach with colourful beach huts. The pier has a theatre and cafe, and is home to the Cromer RNLI life boat - the station is open to the public. You can hire dipping nets and buckets on the pier - try to catch your own Cromer crab! There is an excellent sea-front cafe/restaurant at the lifeboat museum.
Taking the coastal path in the other direction is a short walk into Overstrand where you can then eat in the White Horse restaurant/bar.
Valonia makes a perfect Norfolk retreat for golfing breaks. The property is adjacent to the Royal Cromer 18-hole golf course where non-members with a handicap are welcome.
This lighthouse does not have a fog signal.
Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.
