The Normans is a three storey holiday townhouse situated in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, just a 2-minute walk from the harbour and the sea. A high wall totally encloses the picturesque rear garden and patio area of this self catering luxury rental house. The house was originally built for the town's wheat merchant, who, it was rumoured, was also a smuggler. At the top of the holiday house there is a spy window, from which the merchant watched his boats come in and apparently the house had tunnels running beneath leading to various locations in the town. The spacious bedrooms have impressive views across the coast from Holkham to Stiffkey.
Wells-next-the-Sea is a popular Norfolk town set behind a small harbour on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. The town has a maze of narrow streets, old alleys and yards, filled with shops, pubs and cafes and there are many listed and impressive Georgian and Victorian buildings.
Wells-next-the-Sea is within one of the UK's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the heart of the North Norfolk Heritage Coast. Laylands Cottage was the first building on the road to Wells-next-the-Sea and one of the earliest buildings in the 15th century town. It was originally built as an inn offering shelter to the drovers from the north bringing cattle and sheep to catch boats to the continent. The old settle where the drovers drank their ale still remains in the corner of the house.
Laylands Cottage enjoys an elevated position with views over a green belt conservation area. Not far ever, an old horse grazes in the field looking out beyond towards the Pinewoods and Wells beach. The house is detached with secluded front and rear gardens. The large rear garden, which is walled and south facing, has mature fruit trees and a large patio, perfect for outside dining.
The house is situated just a five minute walk from the harbour and the sea. Wells beach, with its famous white sand dunes and beach huts, is easily reached by a 15-minute walk through the pine wood. Laylands Cottage has recently undergone a complete renovation which is sympathetic to the historic heart of the house, but also encompasses all the conveniences for modern living.

Corrie's Cottage, with its beach themed interior, is just a short drive from some of the many attractions that North Norfolk has to offer. In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present The Link at Cromer Lighthouse The original Cromer Lighthouse was built in 1680 but the present lighthouse, a white octagonal tower, was built in 1833 and converted to automatic operation in 1990.
The Link (with accommodation for two guests) is one of two semi-detached cottages at the lighthouse, which is a mile from the traditional North Norfolk town of Cromer. A 10 minute stroll along the coastal path or along the beach will take you into Cromer, where you can explore shops, pubs and sample local seafood - notably, the excellent Cromer crab sandwiches. Cromer is a popular holiday destination for families and has a long sandy beach with colourful beach huts. The pier has a theatre and cafe, and is the location of the RNLI life boat station which is open to the public. You can hire dipping nets and buckets there - try to catch your own Cromer crab from the pier! There is an excellent sea-front cafe/restaurant at the lifeboat museum.
Taking the coastal path in the other direction is a short walk into Overstrand where you can then eat in the White Horse restaurant/bar.
The Link makes a perfect Norfolk retreat for golfing breaks. The property is adjacent to the Royal Cromer 18-hole golf course where non-members with a handicap are welcome.
This lighthouse does not have a fog signal.
Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

This attractive, traditional Norfolk cottage enchants and envelops its occupiers. It has been renovated to retain a wealth of original features whilst being adapted for modern living. It is located in the rural village of Plumstead adjacent to the Green and the national environmental award winning community wildflower meadow and ancient pond.
This is also home to a local barn owl that can be seen circling the meadow at dawn and dusk. The fully enclosed south-west facing garden is lawned, with fruit trees. It is ideal for children and dogs and has a large patio, perfect for outside dining and barbecues.
The neighbours sell their organic produce on an honesty system in season. There are many beautiful walks from the doorstep from which to experience the abundant wildlife including hares, deer and a wide variety of wild birds.
There are many good pubs and restaurants within a short drive. The vibrant market town of Holt with its many eateries, independent shops and galleries is just a 10 minute drive away.
The sandy beaches of Sheringham and Cromer are less than 15 minutes drive whilst seal trips, bird-watching, top 10 UK Holkham Beach, National Trust properties and popular Wells-Next-the-Sea and Burnham Market are all within easy reach.
